Memory Care That Feels Like Home

One of the biggest fears family members may feel as they think about moving a loved one into memory care is that the facility will feel sterile and overcrowded — and their parent or grandparent will become just another resident. We believe that memory care should provide safety and support without making someone feel like they’ve lost their independence or identity.

Longhouse Households designed to offer comfort and familiarity. Instead of long hallways and loud dining rooms, we have cozy common spaces where residents are encouraged to engage in conversation, partake in family-style meals, and enjoy music, games, and art.

In this smaller, more intimate environment, staff will learn each resident’s personality and preferences. As they get to know your loved one’s history and daily rhythms, they can adapt their care as necessary — and always with the utmost respect.

We believe that the core services of memory care, such as personal care, medication management, and maintaining safety, can be balanced with real-life enrichment.

Our approach to Alzheimer’s and dementia care blends specialized training with support that retains every resident’s individuality.

We bring Bothell families the following services:

  • Certified caregivers trained in dementia-specific techniques
  • 24/7 awake staff for constant supervision and responsive care
  • Assistance with daily personal care routines and medication management
  • Support for various forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s, Lewy body, vascular, and mixed dementia
  • Calm, sensory-friendly indoor environments designed for orientation and comfort
  • Familiar daily routines that reduce anxiety and promote a sense of stability
  • Safe, secure households with access to enclosed gardens
  • Enriching, ability-based activities that encourage connection and joy

Our goal isn’t simply to keep our residents safe. We’re here to help them continue participating in everyday life as much as they can.

A Small Household Makes a Difference

Truly effective caregivers know even more than a resident’s medication schedule — they’ve learned which activities, snacks, and even clothing choices will bring joy to that resident’s day.

Equipped with this knowledge, staff members can make suitable adjustments to a resident’s routine on a given day based on their mood. Some days, a resident may need to express themselves through arts and crafts; other days, sitting in the garden and breathing in fresh air may soothe their spirit.

Rather than putting hundreds of residents under one roof, each Longhouse Household is designed for a small group of seniors. In these “human scale” households, residents get more personal interaction with a consistent team of caregivers who become familiar with their routines and can recognize subtle behavior cues.

For someone living with dementia, that familiarity can be especially valuable. Our environments are built so residents have fewer people and spaces to navigate.

Meanwhile, common areas, dining spaces, and outdoor areas create opportunities for residents, caregivers, and family members to spend time together.

At Longhouse Assisted Living Households, we offer the comforts of home with professional assisted living and memory care services.

Dementia-Specific Care and Support

Caring for someone with dementia involves so much more than providing extra supervision. Since dementia can impact someone’s memory and communication skills, as well as their behavior and even their mobility, people with the condition often need hands-on assistance with everyday activities.

Staff members at Longhouse Assisted Living Households receive specialized training in caring for people with dementia, including training in the Validation Method. Through the Validation Method, caregivers gain skills in understanding residents’ experiences and responding to them with empathy, active listening, and emotional reassurance. This approach can help preserve a resident’s sense of dignity and normalcy, even as dementia changes what they’re able to do on their own.

And as our residents’ needs increase over time, we prioritize keeping them in the environment they’ve become accustomed to, allowing them to continue aging in place while the support they receive evolves to match those needs.

In addition to memory care and personal assistance, we can provide intermittent nursing support for certain stable medical needs. We’re also capable of accommodating residents receiving hospice services.

For families, that continuity can mean fewer major transitions at an already emotionally heightened time. For residents, it means remaining in a familiar home with caregivers and neighbors they already know.

What Does a Day in Memory Care Look Like?

While every resident’s routine will look a little different depending on the day, life inside a Longhouse Household echoes the rhythms of being at home — with extra support and helping hands.

Your loved one might start the morning getting some assistance with personal care like bathing, grooming, toileting, and dressing, depending on their needs. Then, they’re off to breakfast surrounded by their neighbors and supported by caregivers who help them take their medications properly and know how they like their coffee or tea.

Throughout their day, they can participate in planned activities like arts and crafts or music therapy. Activities are designed around residents' interests and abilities, not simply to fill a calendar.

If they’re feeling inspired to get moving, they can enjoy some exercise or safe, monitored outdoor time. In our communal spaces, your loved one can connect with their new friends and neighbors between meals and snack time — always a great time of day.

Our goal is to make memory care feel like daily life, not a series of scheduled medical appointments and therapies.
