It started with years of working with seniors in their homes after I founded Husky Senior Care in 2009, seeing the isolation and lack of humane care, and wanting to protect their dignity. It developed as I witnessed what made seniors peaceful and happy. I noticed that many memory care communities do not include the BASIC THINGS that make life pleasant for us all, such as fresh air, natural light, trees and greenery, tranquility, the sound of birds, the sound of flowing water, and access to earth and gardens. I think this oversight resulted from the rush to exaggerate the differences between the elderly and everyone else. Longhouse Assisted Living Households goes to great lengths to normalize the approach to design and generously supply the “common” things that make our lives pleasant. And Longhouse® finally emerged as the extension of Husky Senior Care's mission to help seniors stay in the household environment.
15-18. We find that this is the perfect size between the too-big hotel-style senior living communities and the too-small Adult Family Homes. With roughly 15 residents, these households hit the sweet spot. This size also allows the comforts of a real home with comprehensive assisted living and memory care services, better socialization and activities, and a professional operation.
This reality is that the sheer size of today’s assisted living communities present an implacable problem: most seniors don’t want to live in them because they’re too big and complicated. And those with cognitive and physical limitations are incapacitated by them. The small size of Longhouse Assisted Living Households allows for a different social model. Longhouse® emphasizes the home model in which most of a person’s time is spent in the familiar settings of a living room, dining room, library, porch, or garden (and this is what we call them). Bedrooms are for sleeping, personal hygiene, napping, dressing, and quiet moments.
Our flagship Longhouse Assisted Living Household is located in Bothell, Washington (Queensgate neighborhood off of Brickyard Road). We also have Longhouses under development in the Bothell - Canyon Park and Redmond, Washington.
The longevity of our staff. We have 12 caregivers who have been with us for more than 10 years! This is unheard of and something we are very proud of. It is also the key to quality care.

Yes. Our Activity Coordinator and Resident Managers work with residents and the staff to compose and execute a well-rounded activity calendar.
Yes! All staff have taken specialty coursework on dementia and have the dementia specialty certificate to prove it. Just as important, many of our caregivers have decades of experience serving senior with dementia.
